Encouraging Positive Use: Student Art at PS 93 in the Bronx

Every schoolyard comes with its own unique community culture. If a community starts to notice that there’s negative use in the playground like littering, vandalism, not respecting the hours or rules for safety, we are happy to help organize community meetings to encourage some problem solving that hopefully leaves everyone feeling included. One idea that rose up at a schoolyard in the Bronx was to uplift the ownership and messages of the most important of schoolyard stakeholders, the kids themselves! We did a sign making workshop with students and posted their messages on the schoolyard fence. Check out the signs they made below:
