💧 Grant Opportunity for K–12 Educators: Your Schoolyard & NYC’s Watershed
The Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC), in partnership with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, is now accepting applications for the 29th round of Watershed Education Grants — with up to $10,000 available for student–teacher projects!
This is a great opportunity for K–12 educators to fund hands-on, interdisciplinary learning that connects your schoolyard to the NYC Water System and Watershed.
Projects that build on existing schoolyard stewardship activities — such as caring for trees, gardens, or green infrastructure that helps absorb stormwater — can make especially strong proposals. Your schoolyard can become a living laboratory for exploring how green spaces help protect our shared water resources.
đź’ˇ Ideas for educators:
- Develop or implement a unit that links school gardens to lessons on the water cycle or urban runoff. (Our Lenapehoking Curriculum has lots of water and green-infrastructure activities to run with!)
- Use tree plantings or permeable play surfaces to study how local actions protect the watershed.
- Partner with CWC’s programmatic offerings, including The City That Drinks the Mountain Sky — a puppetry storytelling show about NYC’s water supply — or other classroom programs that bridge science, art, and environmental stewardship.
