This game can be adapted to any topic that involves numbers but it especially suits the topic of Green Infrastructure and water in your TPL schoolyard. After all, the the students will be surrounded by the very technology in question. This game promotes movement and exercise as students “vote” on the correct answer by running to one of many numbers posted (with tape) around the playground. The game leader holds the game’s Key and calls out answers Jeopardy style: “This is the number of Combined Sewage Overflow points across the city that dump sewage into our waterways during heavy rain or snowmelt”

Students have many numbers to choose from including the Answer: 460 (eww!)

I’ve found that students are much more engaged when they have to vote with their whole bodies rather than just their hands. They’ll also get their heartrates up, creating a positive association to learning and have a tool for mapping their knowledge onto a physical space which creates better retention for visual learners.
