Professional Learning Opportunity: Explore NYC Harbor Water Quality & Green Infrastructure
Opportunity at a Glance
Join the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), NY Sea Grant, and SUNY Maritime for a unique half-day, in-person professional learning experience along the Long Island Sound waterfront.
This program is designed for NYC middle and high school teachers interested in exploring real-world resources and opportunities related to NYC harbor water quality. Topics include stormwater management, green infrastructure, estuary ecology, ecological restoration, bio-extraction and nutrient removal, and environmental stewardship.
Participants will engage in hands-on learning activities and take part in an exciting field experience aboard SUNY Maritime’s research vessel.
This experience also highlights how green infrastructure in TPL schoolyards can serve as a living classroom, connecting students directly to the systems that impact water quality across our city—from campus rain gardens to the larger harbor ecosystem.
